My Barcelona Story

The story behind this trip is actually how we came up with the idea of Guesty.

I had a vacation trip planned to the beautiful city of Barcelona for a couple of weeks. It was a great opportunity to put my place on Airbnb and earn some money from my home while I was out of town. Plus, I wanted someone to be there to take care of the plants. That was my first time using Airbnb as a host. I found two friends to take care of the keys and linen exchange for me, bought two more pairs of guests sheets and towels (which was quite an expense) and cleaned the house – I thought I’d nailed it.

The experience was great, as was my vacation – until I started getting messages from my guests with questions or just some chit chat. I remember I was sitting on the beach, suddenly receiving a message from a soon-to-arrive guest. Airbnb text messages get cut after 100+ characters, so I didn’t even know what was going on. I had no internet on my phone and no WiFi on the beach, so I had to pack up my belongings and run to the nearest internet cafe. Eventually it was all fine but the fact I couldn’t just enjoy my vacation time, and still had to be available left a bitter taste in my Airbnb experience.

A month later I had a business trip and kept debating whether I should relive my experience and put my place on Airbnb again. I knew it was a good source of revenue but also one that can cause hassle and a headache. There was no professional Airbnb hosting service so I decided to open one with my brother. This is how Guesty started.
